Description Are you interested in working on engineering challenges associated with the reentry systems deployed as part of our Nation 's premiere strategic ballistic missile and long range strike hypersonic weapons systems?Do you enjoy solving challenging problems with a diverse team of engineers?If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.We are seeking an engineer to help us perform developmental design assessments, performance assessments and data analysis of strategic reentry vehicles. These reentry systems are an integral part of our Nation's strategic deterrent and may contain conventional or nuclear warheads. As a member of the team, you will help to scope and guide analysis and participate in the integration and testing of various reentry systems.As a Reentry Systems Engineer you will... - Conduct engineering analysis and assess the performance of reentry bodies
- Lead trade studies on various reentry systems
- Lead and analyze flight test data to understand system performance
- Collaborate with cross-discipline teams to advise government and industry partners on engineering challenges and design trades
- Produce reports and presentations to communicate findings to team members and government partners
- Have the opportunity to work on reentry systems throughout all phases of the product life-cyclefrom development through deployment.
Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... - Have a B.S. in engineering and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
- Have knowledge of key reentry subject areas such as aerodynamic performance, flight dynamics, and/or subsystem performance
- Have experience or knowledge in design, integration, and/or testing of hypersonics systems
- Have strong computer experience and programming skills, including MATLAB Are able to work and effectively interact with colleagues and multi-disciplinary teams both internally and externally of different experience levels and backgrounds including industry and military personnel
- Are willing and able to travel occasionally to attend meetings or field tests at other government and contractor sites (approx. 30-35 days per year)
- Are comfortable working in closed area facilities
- Have strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Have initiative, interest in skill development and the flexibility to accept assignments of varied scope and skill.
- Hold an active Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and meet the requirements for access to classified information.
