SILC Executive Director The Maine Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC), Inc. is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The SILC is a federally mandated council under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The Maine SILC advances independent living by engaging in or supporting research, publication, employment, community organizing, advocacy, and systems reform. The SILC is dedicated to ensuring that citizens with disabilities have control over their lives and environments with equal access to options, opportunities, and choices as do all citizens. - This position is very flexible in nature, at 20 to 40 hours a week, working in various locations but primarily out of your home. -The Executive Director of the SILC would answer directly to the SILC Chairperson. - Responsibilities: - - - - Attending all full committee SILC meetings, including the taking and distribution of meeting - - - minutes. - - - - Schedules meetings of the Council, assuring adequate public notice. Coordinates and makes all arrangements for Council meetings, including but not limited to, preparing agendas, and sending in advance, reserving meeting space, inviting speakers, engaging caterers preparing, and distributing minutes in a timely manner. - Facilitate, in consultation with state partners and the Membership Committee of the SILC, the recruitment of, membership process, new member orientation and the Governor's Appointments Office to assure that Council membership is in full compliance with the requirements in the Act. Prepares and submits timely reports, including the annual Program Progress Repor, overseeing a website, publication of an annual report and other external marketing products. Develops and implements new efforts and activities to further the mission. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations Plans, monitors, and implements organizational goals and objectives included in the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL). Responsible for budgetary and fiscal administration in partnership with the Treasurer. The council analyzes Independent Living (IL) needs and trends and establishes goals and objectives in consideration of available resources. All other duties as requested. - Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree preferred. A clear understanding of the philosophy of independent living. Five years of work experience in a nonprofit or with a disability-associated organization; executive director experience preferred. - - - - Must be computer savvy with knowledge of Microsoft Office and ZOOM. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent analytical and organizational abilities. Proactive, works independently, accepts responsibility.
