Neurocritical Care Nurse Practitioner Needed Greater New Orleans Suburban Region
Start Date: April 2026
Contract Length: 13 weeks; potential ongoing need

Schedule

Full-time scheduled shifts
Night shifts: 7p 7a (12 hour)
night shifts per month (blocked scheduling preferred)
No call required
24 hour neurointensivist support available

Practice Details

Closed adult Neuro ICU setting
Comprehensive management of critically ill neurologic patients
Support staff includes nursing, RT, neurocritical care physicians, and additional APPs
Patients per shift: typically interacts with a subset of based on acuity
EMR: Epic

Clinical Scope

Full-spectrum adult Neuro ICU care
Neurologic assessments, localization, and acute neurocritical management
Ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and critical care sedation
Admission, rounding, daily progress notes, consults, and discharge documentation
Procedures (required):

Wound care, debridement, dressing changes
I&D of superficial abscesses
NG tube insertion/removal
Urinary catheterization
Venous punctures

Critical care procedures & competencies (required):

Bag-mask ventilation
LMA insertion
Management of neurologic emergencies (ischemic stroke, ICH, SAH, TBI, status epilepticus)
ICP concepts, ventilatory strategies, antithrombotic reversal, acid/base, infection, cardiac arrest protocols

Preferred skills (not required):

Central line insertion
Arterial line insertion
Lumbar puncture
Post operative neurosurgical management
CT interpretation, CXR interpretation, accurate EKG interpretation

Requirements

Nurse Practitioner Neurocritical Care
Board Certified (AGACNP or Acute Care NP)
Active Louisiana license required
DEA & Louisiana CSR required
BLS, ACLS, ENLS required
Minimum 1 year Neuro ICU or critical care experience (or very close to 1 year)
Must be comfortable practicing with high acuity neurological conditions

Credentialing

Approx. 60 days
No name clear required
Submittal must include NPI and all license details

Located in the Greater New Orleans Suburban Region, supporting a high acuity adult Neuro ICU with 24 hour neurointensivist coverage, advanced neurocritical protocols, and consistent night shift scheduling.
