QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree or technical degree desired but not required, with an emphasis in computer technology, network and systems security.
  • Knowledge of computer network, hardware, and software applications.
  • Knowledge of data communications security procedures.
  • Knowledge of security systems with the capacity to learn.
  • Ability to install and maintain security software to monitor system usage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision and oversight.
  • Sound reasoning and decision-making abilities, able to organize, prioritize, and manage projects.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with other staff in the execution of duties.
  • Well-developed grammar and proof-reading skills, with a high attention to detail. REPORTS TO: Director of Technology

    POSITION SUMMARY: The Systems Security Specialist will oversee and ensure the security, protection of, and access to, the district computer, door access, and surveillance systems and data. In addition the Systems Security Specialist will also oversee and maintain all Newton Public School district websites and support district communication software and hardware.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Effectively utilizes district technologies appropriate to the position and assumes responsibility for attending training needed to successfully perform the identified responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.
  • Responsible for all building video surveillance hardware and software. That would include operation, installation, maintenance, usage, and upkeep.
  • Optimize and maintain the school district's Milestone security camera technology.
  • Provide technical support and training for building administrators and other district officials on the use of video surveillance software and hardware to enable them to do their job.
  • Repair and install all security and related equipment in the district.
  • Assist all building personnel in the correct operation and use of security equipment.
  • Conduct in-service training sessions with district personnel in the proper operation of security systems.
  • Assist and support district officials with building security needs to include hardware and software.
  • Requisition material as necessary, maintaining adequate parts inventories that pertain to district security systems.
  • Maintain careful and detailed security systems maps, providing information as necessary.
  • Provides creative expertise to develop design standards for the website and communicates those standards to others who assist with page maintenance.
  • Maintains confidentiality and complies with federal regulations and district acceptable use policy in regards to web content and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding technology and software related to website development.
  • Assists the Director of Communications in any livestreaming or audio/visual needs such as the USD 373 Board of Education regularly-scheduled meetings.
  • Provide insights to the Director of Technology, Director of Communications, and/or Director of Business on relevant technology grants and district needs.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding student and staff information in order to remain in compliance with legal requirements and to maintain a professional work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Wage and length of employment to be established by the board of education.
