Job Description Job Description Nursing degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1 years Stepdown RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. Step into a vital role within a newly established Progressive Care Unit (PCU) that opens February 2026 in Cornelius, NC. This 12-bed unit focuses on medical-based adult patients requiring specialized intermediate care, with conditions such as CHF, COPD, ventilated and trached patients, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, and diabetic management including insulin drips. The unit prioritizes skilled nursing care in a supportive environment using EPIC EMR technology, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing. Key Responsibilities: Deliver comprehensive nursing care including IV starts, wound care (dressings, wound vacs, drains), central line maintenance, NG tube insertion, and tube feed management. Administer and titrate medications such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Heparin, and Insulin drips using Endotool. Monitor cardiac rhythms and manage PCA and kangaroo pumps. Perform lab draws independently due to no phlebotomy support. Comfort and willingness to learn vent care and Precedex drip administration are essential. Collaborate with CNAs, charge nurses, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, intensivists, and anesthesia providers. Float to other facilities within the region when needed, maintaining a 1:4 patient ratio, with paid travel time between locations. Utilize self-scheduling on a 6-week rotation, including weekend and holiday shifts. Desired Qualifications: Registered Nurse with current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications. Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required; first-time travelers accepted if over 5 years in PCU. Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation and complex nursing procedures. Proficient with EPIC EMR and comfortable working without tele tech monitoring. Adaptable to floating across multiple healthcare settings within the region. Schedule & Work Environment: 12-hour shifts, 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am. 6 weekends in a 6-week cycle; approximately 75% holiday availability required. Navy blue scrubs and free parking provided.
