DepartmentPATHOLOGY AND LABORATORY MED (IN-PATH-IUINA) Job SummaryThe Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking applications for our Clinical Research Medical Technologist position. This position will report to the Clinical Operations Manager and will assist in carrying out multiple clinical studies concurrently as well as laboratory testing on multiple platforms. The primary role of this position is to record, test and result data on research samples from subjects for multiple clinical studies that the research group are involved with.Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Clinical Operations Manager and assists in carrying out multiple clinical studies concurrently as well as laboratory testing on multiple platforms
  • Participates in the initiation; sample collection and data collection, shipment preparation, completion, and reporting of routine to moderately complex clinical studies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Identifies, collects, and de-identifies, enrolls, aliquot and process samples for clinical research studies. Samples may include blood, sputum, stool, urine, throat swabs, wound swabs, urogential and body fluids
  • Completes informed consent of patients
  • Inputs study specific data entry in to industry Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems
  • Documents and accounts for all incoming samples and materials
  • Transports materials and samples to and from both IU Research sites as well as collection sites
  • Ensures proper communication and compliance with internal and external partiesGeneral Responsibilities
    • Provides training and guidance to technicians
    • Performs exams using proper equipment as ordered by providers
    • Checks to be sure all reports are filed promptly and sent to ordering providers for review
    • Makes sure charges are entered correctly by checking order list or by entering data into EMR for outside providers, so patients will be billed properly
    • Sends test results to qualified provider for analysis
    • Monitors equipment and performs regular maintenance and inspections as needed
    • Ensures equipment is repaired and is in good working orderQualificationsCombinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education. EDUCATIONRequired
      • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school associated with technician specialtyWORK EXPERIENCERequired
        • 2 years of experience in technician specialty Preferred
          • Experience in clinical lab testing on multiple platforms in Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology or MolecularLICENSES AND CERTIFICATESRequired
            • Technician related specialty with associated state technical certification upon date of hireSKILLSRequired
              • Proficient communication skills

The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.Additional InformationThe department is looking for a candidate that has experience doing lab testing in all areas, but specifically looking to fill the Microbiology spot while being willingly versatile within the position. This position is a great opportunity for a dynamic individual who is looking to interact with co-workers on multiple research projects in a fast paced environment. This position is grant funded with expected annual renewals. Renewals are contingent on the availability of grant funds.
