DepartmentPHYSICAL PLANT (SB-PHYP-IUSBA) Job Summary - Applies paints, primers, stains, and finishes to interior and exterior surfaces (walls, ceilings, staircases, equipment, etc.).
- Prepares coating materials by tinting, toning, matching, and blending to obtain desired color or consistency; mixes in various additives such as retardants, hardeners, drying agents, etc.
- Prepares surfaces to accept finishes by patching holes, cracks and joints with caulk, putty, plaster or other filler; strips, scrapes, sands or power washes to remove old finish and clean surface.
- Strips, sands, seals and finishes doors, furniture, woodwork, trim and flooring.
- Removes graffiti; removes, repairs and installs wall coverings.
- May perform stenciling and dado work.
- Erects scaffolding in safe manner according to site conditions.
- Performs other general building maintenance as assigned.
- May supervise hourly workers. QualificationsEDUCATIONRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)WORK EXPERIENCERequired
- 2 years of verifiable painting experienceLICENSES AND CERTIFICATESRequired

It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections.
