DepartmentPED-NEONATAL BASIC RESEARCH (IN-PNEB-IUINA)Department InformationThe Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 200 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.Job SummaryA position is open for a full-time Research Technician in the laboratory of Jacquelyn Lajiness, MD, PhD. The Lajiness lab focuses on understanding mechanisms of immune-mediated preterm birth and the impact this has on the development of the fetal/neonatal immune system. The technician will conduct experiments pertinent to immunobiology including protein biochemistry, RNA/DNA extraction and gene expression analysis, flow cytometry experimental design and analysis, cell culture, and animal studies.Department-Specific Responsibilities - Designs and conducts a variety of experiments using in vitro and in vivo rodent models
- Develops and optimizes standard operating procedures for the lab
- Sets up, maintains and troubleshoots equipment; orders and maintains laboratory supplies
- Maintains a detailed laboratory notebook of all lab-related activities
- Records, analyzes, interprets, and organizes/presents experimental data
- Participates in grant writing and manuscript preparationGeneral Responsibilities
- Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results
- Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments
- Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed
- Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training
- Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management
- May train junior-level staff
- May help plan experiments or short-term goalsQualificationsEDUCATIONRequired

The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.Additional Information$40,000 - $45,000 based on experience, skill level, education, and training.
