Job Description Under supervision, installs, repairs, and test aerial and underground electrical wires, fixtures, and related equipment and performs related duties as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Installs and connects electrical lines, fiber optics and cables to power sources.
- Splices and terminates copper and fiber optic cables.
- Cuts, bends, and fits conduit into trenches and installs new electrical wire.
- Relocates existing electrical installations and fixtures to facilitate street construction projects.
- Performs voltage test to determine type of wire and level of functionality.
- Locates and repairs breaks in underground electrical lines.
- Removes decayed or broken cable and installs new conduit pipe and cable.
- Assembles and installs electrical fixtures (e.g., light poles, lamps, traffic signal heads and surveillance cameras)
- Tests fire alarm circuits and the timing of traffic signals and streetlamps to ensure proper operation.
- Prepares work activity reports.
- Operates an aerial boom from a line truck to reach aerial wires as required.
- Marks cable locations on streets to prevent damage by other work crews and contractors as required. Additional duties may be required for this position.

- A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required.
- Must have the permanent use of an automobile that is properly insured, including a clause specifically insuring the City of Chicago from accident liability. WORKING CONDITIONS

- Exposure to hazardous conditions (e.g., traffic, heavy machinery)
- Work performed above or below ground levels
- Work performed using scaffolds and ladders.
