Simplot Company is a true farm-to-table company with operations that touch every aspect of agriculture, including seed production, farming and ranching, plant sciences, fertilizer manufacturing, food processing, commercial product development, and distribution.SUMMARYAssists in the care and treatment of feedlot cattle by performing the following duties.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Monitors cattle by riding the feedlot pens on horseback to identify sick, injured, or stressed animals; removes the sick or injured cattle from pens to be medically treated. Assists with the receiving, unloading, sorting, and processing of cattle as assigned by the Feedlot and/or Cattle Manager. Assists in the medical treatment of sick or injured cattle by following an established medical-treatment plan provided by the Staff Veterinarian. Moves cattle from pen to pen as instructed by the Cattle Manager and/or Lead Cowboy to rotate cattle according to production schedules. Trains, shoes, feeds, and medically treats horses to provide healthy, productive animals.QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEKnowledgeable in the areas of animal health and cattle conditions generally acquired with a minimum of two to five years related experience and/or training.LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIESMust be able to saddle and ride a horse.
