Summary The Water Rights Specialist will be responsible for creating and maintaining water right strategies and working with business units within the organization to obtain the rights necessary for the water supply requirements. In addition, the Water Rights Specialist will be assisting in real property transactions. This job will serve as the point of contact for all state and federal water right and water supply contract administrative authorities and water delivery entities (i.e. irrigation districts, canal companies, etc). Key Responsibilities Developing, applying, and executing water right strategies to fulfill the water supply requirements for each business unit, or in support of new business ventures. This includes applying for, modifying, transferring, exchanging, leasing, buying and selling water rights, water supply contracts and storage contracts. Works directly with business leaders and business development teams to evaluate the water supply requirements and long-term reliability throughout property acquisition due diligence; and develop long term water strategies. Ensures the rights to the use of water for the water supply requirements of each business unit is fulfilled, providing technical expertise to all operating groups, legal department, and Simplot family in all matters involving the rights to use water. This includes applying for, modifying, transferring, leasing, buying and selling water rights. Responsible for filing, managing, and defending all water rights filed in pending and future stream and basin adjudications (surface water and groundwater). Assist with real property transactions including, but not limited to easements, mineral rights, leases, acquisitions, due diligence research and curing real property right defects. Typical Education Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university Relevant Experience 8+ years related experience and/or training Required Certifications Other Information |
