Discover all the possibilities of a career at Northside today. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides care and/or service to patients undergoing surgical intervention without regard to age, race, or gender. 2. Assists the surgical team before, during, and after procedures. 3. Reviewing supplies and equipment 4. Setting up surgical equipment 5. Preparing patients for surgery 6. Positioning the patient 7. Completing surgical skin preps 8. Draping sterile field 9. Maintaining sterile techniques, recognizing breaks in technique, and takes steps to regain sterility. 10. Organizing and passing instruments, supplies, equipment, medication, and solutions 11. Ensuring management of the surgical specimen 12. Performing appropriate surgical counts with circulating nurse. 13. May serve in the first or second scrub role 14. Cleaning the operating rooms in preparation for subsequent surgical procedures. 15. Transporting patients or specimens as necessary. 16. Transporting clean and dirty equipment and supplies. 17. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury accident to supervisor. 18. When Assigned to the Expeditor Role: 1. Completes case cart with all supplies and instruments required for scheduled cases at least 30 minutes prior to subsequent scheduled case start. 2. Obtains instruments used on previous case that will be needed for subsequent case and delivers to Instrument Tech for cleaning and sterilizing 3. At end of case, delivers dirty case cart/instruments to appropriate soiled holding location. 4. At end of case, places unused clean supplies in appropriate area 5. Retrieves extra supplies and equipment that are not listed on preference card. Facilitates changes in preference card to reflect needed items 6. Ensures that required equipment and supplies are on hand for scheduled cases, 7. Provides assistance with room setup 8. Supports the rapid turnover of surgical procedures at the direction of OR leadership. 9. Removes any unnecessary equipment, returning it to designated storage areas. ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Other duties as assigned by supervision. REQUIRED - Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program. - Visual color acuity screening depending on the role in specific units. - Must hold American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
