The Continuous Improvement Process Engineer leads continuous improvement (CI) projects using a DMAIC approach to identify procedural and/or process changes that improve efficiency, quality, reliability and cost reduction. This position is the primary change agent in the plant's transition from a reactive to proactive culture through the development of a continuous improvement program. This position requires an experienced engineer who can drive improvements through the use of continuous improvement tools such as 5S, SMED, VSM, RCA and others. The employee's primary duty must be the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of Helena or Helena's customers. This also includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance. What your day may look like - Develops and communicates a continuous improvement vision that transforms the plant to a proactive culture.
- Actively coordinates and supports the implementation of continuous improvement systems.
- Trains, coaches and motivates team members in the understanding and adoption of new principles and techniques related to continuous improvement, such as: standard work, variation reduction, 5S, SMED, VSM, RCA and others.
- Manages Lean and/or Six Sigma projects by leading cross-functional teams to identify procedural and process changes that will improve efficiency, improve quality, reduce cost, improve sustainability and maximize profitability.
- Assesses process capabilities including equipment utilization, staffing and supply chain.
- Monitors process performance compared to capabilities and generates recommendations for process improvements.
- Identifies process constraints and monitors performance through the use of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Assists in troubleshooting, upgrading and testing of processes and equipment.
- Develops best practices, routines and innovative solutions to improve production rates and quality of output through the use of standard work and/or automation.
- Performs risk assessments.
- Provides process documentation and operating instructions.
- Participates in new projects and provides data where applicable.
- Coordinates with EHS on ergonomic and safety issues.
- Other duties as assigned by leader.
- Regular and reliable attendance is expected.
Education and experience needed for this position Bachelor's degree in engineering, industrial technology or related field is required. Five years of work experience in a related work environment is required. Associate's degree and 10 years of related work experience will be considered. Other skills that will help you succeed |
