human impactProject/Unit Description The Applied Systems Laboratory (ASL) Systems Integration Division (SID) supports systems integration, system architecture, and product development projects for the Department of Defense (DoD) manned and unmanned aircraft improvement programsSID researches military aircraft specializing in avionics, electronic warfare, autonomous systems, intelligence systems, and tactical communication/datalink systemsThe SID team's engineering roles include Avionic Systems Engineering, Algorithm Engineering, Datalink Engineering, and Embedded Systems EngineeringJob Purpose The Algorithm & Analysis Engineer is responsible for the development and support of state-of-the-art algorithms involving data fusion, sensor fusion, machine learning, manned/unmanned avionics improvement programs, and genetic programmingThe Algorithm & Analysis Engineer focuses on the design, analysis, software/hardware implementation, optimization, profiling, and experimental evaluation of computer algorithms, bridging the gap between algorithm theory and practical applications of algorithms in software engineeringAdditionally, the Algorithm & Analysis Engineer conducts statistical analysis of multi-modal and time-varying data to characterize and quantify system qualities and deficiencies, resulting in recommendations and development of improvementsKey Responsibilities--- Design data cleaning and analysis strategies, proposing new tools and modifications to existing paradigms.--- Design and execute algorithm tests, providing oversight to others.--- Lead algorithm design discussions for entire studies.--- Architect overall algorithms with detailed system and integration considerations.--- Lead technical report execution and provide oversight to others.--- Lead discussions with sponsors for large portions of research.--- Serve as technical lead for small projects at sponsor sites, providing guidance to others.--- Lead technical execution and writing for sections of journal articles and conference presentations.--- Conduct literature searches for finding new avenues of thought and bodies of work to explore.--- Serve as a mentor to student researchers, including co-ops, Graduate Research Associates (GRAs), and others through Institute programsAdditional Responsibilities--- Development of Algorithms integrated with fielded military systems.--- Development of Data Analysis solutions.--- Performing Data Analysis to evaluate performance of systems and algorithms.--- Interact with sponsors, and their designees, to ensure sponsor satisfaction with work products and develop new sponsorship.--- Contribute to development of proposals containing Algorithms, Data Fusion, Sensor Fusion, Machine Learning, Genetic Programming, or Data Analysis.--- Act as the project or task lead for assigned projects being responsible for cost, schedule, technical quality, staffing and sponsor interface.--- Ensure that all technical work is performed and documented to organizational and DoD standards (e.gISO 9001, DO-178C, mission critical) based on project requirements.--- Enforce organization policies and practicesRequired Minimum Qualifications--- Experience developing Algorithms and/or Data Analysis for military or avionics systems using disciplined engineering processes and methodologiesPreferred Qualifications--- Active Secret Clearance.--- Experience developing military aircraft systems relevant algorithms.--- Experience analyzing performance data from military aircraft systems.--- Experience leading small to mid-sized technical tasks
