Location:SCUPP Shift: 8-5 M-F Starting Pay Rate: $18.00Job DescriptionProgram Dates : Summer 2024 (May 20 Aug 9) Time Commitment : Full-time Format : On-site (Carrollton, GA)Role Summary The Safety Intern is responsible for supporting health and safety compliance and program management for assigned Southwire facility/facilities. Provides expertise to ensure regulatory requirements applicable to the facility are known. Plans, organizes and implements health and safety activities at the facility and assists facility management and EHS staff in monitoring all facility activities to ensure that regulatory and company requirements are met.Description of Responsibilities Support environmental, health, and safety (EHS) staff in the following activities: - Ensure management and operational personnel are aware of applicable current and pending regulatory requirements imposed by federal, state and local authorities.
- Create processes that identify, evaluate, and control hazards in the workplace.
- Implement and maintain required EHS compliance programs/processes.
- Provide industrial hygiene support as needed to evaluate employee noise and other health exposures.
- Direct the development and implementation of new EHS programs.
- Provide training for staff in relation to EHS policies, practice and procedures.
- Provide support for implementation and sustainability of the Behavior Base Safety process and Human Performance.
- Assist with the coordination of emergency services and contractors.
- Champion implementation of an EHS management program, including certification to ISO 45001 or OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree inhealth, safety and/or environmental field.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work
- Familiarity with various safety regulations or standards (OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, NEC, etc.).
- Working knowledge of ISO 45001 and/or OSHA VPP standard is preferred.
- Ability to work non-traditional hours or shifts.
- Able to work effectively with engineers, managers, plant personnel, and others.
- Skilled at managing multiple projects at once and providing feedback to managers.
- Adept at resolving complex problems encountered in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Must have excellent verbal and written skills along with exceptional interpersonal skills.
