The Office of Survey Methods Research within BLS conducts research to develop behavioral and statistical methods to improve BLS surveys. Role and Responsibilities
Lead a team of researchers in devising novel statistical methodologies.
Develop and lead a research agenda in mathematical statistics to enhance BLS data collection and analysis.
Present research findings at conferences and collaborate with government and academic researchers.
Serve as an expert methodologist, consulting on statistical methodologies to improve data quality and estimation processes.
Research Focus and Expertise
Our researchers specialize in survey design and data analysis, including nonparametric estimation, machine learning, and Bayesian hierarchical modeling. Our methods aim to provide unbiased population inferences and accurate uncertainty quantification, considering dependencies from survey design, time, and spatial factors. We are also exploring privacy-preserving data dissemination techniques.
