OverviewThe David Rockefeller Studies Program at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is seeking to hire a Stanton Nuclear Security Senior Fellow. The fellow will be expected to conduct original research on nuclear security policy, which includes nuclear terrorism, nuclear proliferation, and nuclear weapons, and as it relates to nuclear security, nuclear energy. This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual looking to shape new thinking and creative policy solutions on the spread of nuclear weapons to unstable and hostile states, the collapse of arms control and risk of conflict between nuclear-armed nations, the importance of nuclear weapons in great power competition, and the impact of new technologies such as AI and quantum on the nuclear balance.The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to): - Producing original written research on nuclear terrorism, nuclear proliferation, nuclear weapons, nuclear force posture, and as it relates to nuclear security, nuclear energy.
- Organizing and leading meetings on nuclear security issues.
- Collaborating with other CFR staff on institutional initiatives on nuclear security and foreign policy
- Participating in other CFR programs and activities.
- Working with CFR's distinguished membership, including those with deep experience in nuclear security.
- Briefing administration officials, members of Congress, and others on research findings and recommendations.
- Educating the broader public through media interviews and public speaking.
- Developing fundraising proposals for the Council's nuclear security work in collaboration with senior staff.QualificationsEducation
- PhD in a relevant field, or equivalent experience business, government, law, or the military.Experience
- Demonstrated history and recent research and writing in the nuclear security area. Recent senior-level policy experience may substitute for recent research.
- Applicants must possess a strong record of professional achievement.
