Responsibilities Global InfoTek is seeking an experienced Database Engineer, Principal PostgreSQL Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead our database team. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in database administration, architecture, and PostgreSQL development. The SME will be responsible for ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of the unit's PostgreSQL databases. - Design and implement database architectures that support business requirements and achieve high performance, availability, and security.
- Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of PostgreSQL databases.
- Conduct performance tuning of database systems, including queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies.
- Develop and implement database backup, recovery, and failover procedures.
- Assist in the design and development of data models and database solutions.
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize database code in application layers.
- Provide guidance on database best practices to IT staff and other stakeholders.
- Ensure database infrastructure is up to date with the latest technology trends and security patches.
- Develop and maintain documentation regarding database configurations, architectures, and procedures.
- Serve as the point of contact for database-related queries and Global InfoTek support.
This is position is required to be onsite for an 8-hour shift within the window of 0700 - 1700, Monday - Friday. The government has established policies for on-site vs remote work which varies across divisions and contracts. Staff are obligated to adhere to these and other FBI policies and react accordingly as policies change over time. Where allowed, remote work must be coordinated with the team lead and/or government POC, ensuring there is zero interruption with the delivery of our services. Requirements - Bachelor's degree and 10 year's experience or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, and 8 year's experience in related field.
- Strong expertise in PostgreSQL database administration, tuning, management, and security.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with PL/pgSQL or similar procedural language.
- Familiarity with database design, documentation, and coding.
- Previous experience with Linux/Unix and scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
- Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery options for PostgreSQL.
- Good understanding of hardware performance, memory and I/O.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
