DEPARTMENT INFORMATION Job Description Summary: The Department of Epidemiology at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University is seeking a Senior Biostatistician to assist the department in conducting an NIH -funded prospective multi-site longitudinal cohort study, the DC Cohort. This study captures clinical information on persons with HIV receiving outpatient HIV care in Washington, DC, at 14 clinical sites and has been operating since 2009 in partnership with numerous clinical providers in Washington, DC, the DC Department of Health, and the National Institutes of Health.

The Senior Biostatistician will join the DC Cohort Analytic Group and will work on various analyses as they relate to the DC Cohort. The work involves planning, designing, conducting, and analyzing complex longitudinal multisite dataset and familiarity with both cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses (e.g., Kaplan Meier, Cox, Survival Analyses, etc.), and familiarity with analyzing randomized trial data as necessary. This person will collaborate directly with the Study Principal Investigator, Co-Investigators, and clinicians at participating sites and be expected to function with limited guidance from the Principal Investigator. This role will mentor and train junior analysts in the DC Cohort Analytic Group as well as graduate-level students using Cohort data.

Essential duties include:

  • Plans and collaborates in the conceptualization and development of analytical plans to address selected research questions
  • Prepares datasets and conducts analysis using advanced statistical procedures independently using SAS . Creates and maintains analysis-related macros using SAS .
  • Develops and maintains reporting systems using SAS .
  • Performs data management, including auditing, editing, and quality control of study databases.
  • Documents all new processes and procedures created in the above tasks.
  • Collaborates with medical investigators, principal investigators, and co-investigators in the design of studies to implement methods in collaboration with the DC Cohort Analytics Group.
  • Contributes to complete lifecycle project development.
  • Leads multi-disciplinary team of programmers and researchers to ensure efficient completion of deliverables.
  • Leads and/or contributes portions of abstracts, posters, reports, and manuscripts for major publications in leading health, medical, and other journals and presentations of results.
  • Participates in general staff meetings or study-specific meetings as required.
  • Communicate with the Biostatistics Center staff and Epidemiology team as needed.
    Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates will hold a MS or MPH in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or in a related discipline, plus 8 years of relevant experience, or a Doctoral degree in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience must be progressive Master's level or equivalent in Statistics, biostatistics or epidemiology. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with statistical programming using SAS
    • Experience analyzing longitudinal datasets
    • Evidence of strong scientific writing skills
    • Strong knowledge of multi-variable regression modeling (linear, logistic) and structural equation modeling or propensity score matching
    • Prior experience in HIV epidemiology
    • Evidence of ability to work both independently and with a team and to manage time across multiple projects
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong and detailed knowledge of statistical software such as SAS or Rand MS Office
