About the Role:
We are seeking a cloud infrastructure leader to drive our critical Kafka Coordinators engineering team against a large and ambitious roadmap. The team is responsible for the core Apache Kafka produce/consume protocol, in cluding transaction management, exactly once semantics and consumer group protocol, and works closely with the Apache Kafka community to reinvent Kafka core protocol to the next level. The team is also responsible for building transactional support and consumer group management features for our cloud-native version of Kafka, at the core of Confluent Cloud, to deliver highly available and performance service at 10x the current scale. You will be responsible for further defining the vision, growing and coaching the team, and planning and driving cross-team efforts to solve complex distributed system challenges at scale.
What You Will Do:

  Own the overall vision and execution for the Kafka Coordinators team
  
  
• 
  Work closely with product management, engineering leadership, and other key stakeholders across various teams in Confluent to build and drive the overall roadmap
  
  
• 
  Deliver high impact to the business by driving important technical initiatives in areas comprising (but not limited to) transactional support and idempotent producer features in data streaming services, core produce/consume protocol development, reliability, scalability, multi-tenancy, and architectural direction across organizational boundaries

  Work with engineering teams and product on critical aspects of product definition, architectural design, and delivery.

  Influence the overall domain health and operational hygiene for the Cloud Platform.
  
  
  What You Will Bring:
  
  
  
  • 
    10+ years of experience in software development and 5+ years in management
    
    
  • 
    Experience designing resilient systems at scale, in the three major CSPs (AWS, Azure, GCP), with a proven track record of "seeing around corners" to reduce complexity and create critical enduring technical foundations
    
    
  • 
    Experience working on databases or distributed data streaming services or data storage.
    
    
  • 
    Ability to influence the team, peers, and upper management using effective communication and collaborative techniques
    
    
  • 
    Ability to hire while ensuring a high hiring bar, keep engineers motivated, coach/mentor, and handle performance management
    
    
  • 
    A great track record of timely shipping features and have a sense of urgency, an aggressive mindset towards achieving results, and excellent prioritization skills
    
    
  • 
    Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent
