The Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Maintenance Technician at Altek are described below:

This position is part-time seasonal (2 - 4 months) to assist our existing crew with an expansion within the existing building as well as other possible projects and will be working as an assistant to the existing Maintenance Technicians, Engineering Technician, and electrician.

Summary

Maintenance Technicians are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the facility and support systems/equipment. As well as ensuring that the facility is a safe and comfortable place to work by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Maintenance Technician at Altek

Includes the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Reads and understands blueprints and wiring diagrams used for diagnosing mechanical or electrical problems. Uses personal judgment and discretion for all facility and equipment repair decisions.
  • Performs or manages preventative maintenance on all building equipment, manufacturing support systems as well as material/manned lifts, dock equipment and shipping equipment.
  • Maintains and develops preventative maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Conduct or schedule maintenance and or repair of electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems from internal or external services.
  • Work with other external service suppliers for building supplies and maintenance.
  • Performs construction or equipment fabrication projects as assigned; assists in plant equipment layout decisions; helps and/or directs others when moving major existing equipment or when installing new equipment.
  • Specifies requirements and sourcing for procurement of replacement parts for facility support systems and equipment.
  • Assists in ensuring operators are using machinery safety equipment properly and reporting non-functioning safety devices.
  • Operates all equipment in a safe manner, following all approved safety procedures at all times.
  • Fixing potential safety hazards to avoid injuries.
  • Participates in housekeeping duties around work stations and as required by supervisor.
  • Has good working knowledge of HVAC equipment and is capable of diagnosing and repairing the same equipment.
  • Responds quickly in the event of a facility emergency, notify appropriate personnel and follow safety protocol.
  • Survey building and repair mechanical systems to ensure they are consistent with health and safety regulations.
  • Inspect alarm systems such as emergency lighting and fire protection and quickly schedule repairs when needed.
  • Painting the building as necessary to maintain appearance and to protect surfaces.
  • Assists departments with moving furniture and/or unloading and storing supplies.
  • Assists in moving materials for the company from and to warehouse.
  • Responsible for understanding & following company guidelines/procedures.
  • Responsible for following established safety rules & 6S. Knowledge and Skill Requirements
    • Advanced understanding of general maintenance procedures and techniques
    • Good working knowledge of plant processes and process control equipment
    • Physically capable and available to work overtime including weekends, public holidays, and evenings.
    • Effective problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Must be well- organized and have the ability to prioritize tasks
    • Good eyesight and hand coordination
    • Good mechanical ability
    • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
    • Working knowledge of tools, common appliances, and devices
    • Ability to follow directions
    • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision Education and/or Experience
      • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role
      • Must have a high school diploma or GED
      • Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record

        Working Conditions

        Work involves lifting, pushing, pulling of materials and product up to 50 pounds.
