Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible.Position Summary:Reporting to the Vice-President of Global HR Operations, the Director of Global People Support and Care directs the function, and manages a local team in the Americas, that serves as advisor and coach to business management and helps address employee relations and performance management needs, interpret and apply policy, and supports organizational change and crisis management. The Director of Global People Support and Care works in close partnership with other HR leaders and Illumina management to guide and execute effective processes and procedures related to workforce management, while ensuring compliance with regional laws and regulations. People Support and Care assists with the roll out of HR initiatives and assists leaders during the implementation of HR plans and programs in partnership with Illumina's HR Business Partner platform and centers of excellence. The role supports the development of HR metrics, data management, analysis and reporting to influence proactive action. Additionally, the role will serve as a project consultant, guiding the planning and execution of projects from initiation through delivery.To be successful in this role you will have extensive HR experience with a strong focus on managing employee relations across multiple regions, understanding cultural differences and navigating different employment laws across the globe. You will have experience guiding legal compliance and managing risk. Demonstrated knowledge of HRIS and case management systems is required, including the ability to identify process improvement opportunities - experience in Workday is a plus. As this is a leadership role, you must demonstrate the ability to work independently and with a team in a dynamic environment, with the ability to influence all levels of management.*This person must reside in San Diego and commute at least 3 days/week to our corporate HQ.Responsibilities: - Manages the People Support and Care function across the globe, including teams in Asia and Europe, by establishing strategic plans and objectives.
- Ensures a dedicated and effective HR advisory service is provided to management and employees that covers performance management, conduct and capability, grievances, organizational change, accommodation requests, employee relations and other workforce management matters.
- Serves as a subject matter expert on employee relations; overseeing effective, thorough and objective investigations and resolving complex employee relations issues, including claims of harassment and/or discrimination, while managing risk and ensuring compliance with regulatory/legal requirements and company policies/procedures.
- Analyzes employee relations trends and metrics to develop solutions, programs, and policies.
- Acts as an advocate for employees.
- Ensures a fair and consistent approach to the organization's policies and procedures, thus promoting a positive work environment consistent with company culture.
- Provides expertise to support the development, design, implementation and administration of employee programs, practices and policies to meet the changing needs of the organization.
- Manages employee services and programs to support employee engagement and maximize the employment experience, including the management of vendor relationships.
- Creates strategic alignment across company sites with respect to the employment experience.
- Identifies, implements and documents process improvements and automation opportunities for global HR processes at each stage of employee life cycle.
- Responsible for developing and managing employee data records in the HR system and in employee files.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Assists with projects by creating and executing project work plans, identifying resources needed and assigning responsibilities.Listed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. - 15+ years HR Business Partner or Employee Relations experience with a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Must have effective skills in managing, motivating, and directing teams.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and with a team in a dynamic environment, with the ability to influence all levels of management.
- Demonstrated strong collaborative skills.
- Requires comprehensive knowledge and experience across various HR disciplines including talent management, performance management, recruitment, compensation, leave of absences, and HR systems.
- Must have a strong knowledge of HR principles and procedures along with federal and state laws and regulations.
- Project management experience required, including leading cross-functional teams, with prior experience managing and executing change management, continuous improvement and system-related projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage workforce concerns with empathy, creativity and flexibility.
- Must be able to reconcile multiple stakeholder views to drive business actions and results.
- Demonstrated knowledge of HRIS and case management systems; experience with Workday is a plus.
- Demonstrate understanding of data requirements, relationships, structure, and relational processing of various types of data to identify action items and drive decision-making.
- Must be extremely organized, self-motivated, and capable of working in a rapidly changing environment with the ability to effectively interact with and influence all levels of management.
- Must have a professional demeanor and the ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with personnel matters.
- Candidate must possess excellent verbal/written communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, project management skills as well as computer literacy in MS Outlook, Word and Excel.
- PHR or SPHR designation and biotech industry experience is preferred.Preferred Educational Background:
