Position overview Position title: Postdoctoral Scholar in Stem Cell and Cancer Research Salary range: UCSC salary scales set the minimum pay based on the individual's Experience Level, which is determined by the number of months of postdoctoral service at any institution. See the salary scale titled, Postdoctoral Scholar-Employee /Postdoctoral Scholar-Fellow / Postdoctoral Scholar-Paid Direct -Fiscal Year. A reasonable estimate for this position is $66,737 - $77,179. Percent time: Full-time (100%) Anticipated start: As soon as possible after initial review of the applications. Ph.D. must be in hand at time of the initial appointment. Position duration: Maximum Duration of Service in a Postdoctoral Title: Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are full-time and the initial appointment is for a minimum of two years, with the possibility of reappointment. The total duration of an individual's postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at any institution. Position description The Department of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar who will work under the direction of Assistant Professor Shaheen Sikandar. The postdoctoral scholar will contribute to stem cell and cancer research focused on developing novel strategies to understand the molecular mechanisms governing metastasis formation; the molecular changes in mammary stem cells during aging; and novel transcription regulators. The postdoctoral scholar will participate in research projects by conceiving, planning, and performing experiments in the laboratory, depending on the experience level of the candidate. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the research endeavors of colleagues within the laboratory and at the institution, as appropriate. The candidate will also be expected to apply for novel, external sources of funding including but not limited to NIH K99/R00 and F32 grants. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as ability and desire to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.
