Basic Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Candidates must be able to obtain a TS/SCI clearance within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required. Responsibilities for this Position General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineer to join us in our San Jose, CA location. This position provides an opportunity to further advance cutting-edge technologies that support some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:The Mechanical Engineer provides electronic packaging, interconnect and cable design associated with large and small scale antenna ground systems.The engineer will be the point of contact for all interconnect and cable aspects of those systems he/she is assigned. The engineer will generate the associated cabling data package and BOMs and support the associated procurement, product builds, system installations and acceptance tests. The engineer will support the generation of site facilities interface specifications, to include monitoring facilities design and construction to ensure system physical requirements and specifications are implemented satisfactorily. The role will include working with the program team and sub-contractors in addition to interfacing with customer representatives.The qualified candidate also performs electronic packaging design for units, racks and systems, working independently and/or with a team of project engineers. Scope of tasking can include design, development and production of mechanical and electromechanical systems, sub-system components, and related structural systems. Work involves hands-on development (design, prototyping, and testing) of one-of-a-kind solutions, often in support of quick response capability (QRC) programs. Support on Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) includes overall deliverable integration, preparation and presentation of technical reports and design milestone reviews, scheduling and planning duties, and other special assignments on a diverse range of technical tasking. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: - Must have demonstrated experience performing electronic packaging design
- Must have demonstrated experience working with equipment performance specs, wire drawing lists, schematics, and related cabling and harnessing documentation
- Must be proficient in Microsoft products Word, Excel, PowerPoint (and Visio and Project is a plus)
- Must be proficient with solid modeling MCAD tools - Creo preferred
- Must be willing to travel to monitor suppliers and to support overseas field installations
- Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a Top Secret clearancePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with power installation and cabling
- Hands-on construction experience; interest/ability to participate in fabrication and assembly activities
- Practical field/installation experience is a plus
- Experience with towers, supports and building structural designs; architectural and/or civil engineering aptitude is a plus
- Experience with preparation and presentation of technical briefings and reports which communicate analysis results, technical trades, design requirements and specifications, and recommendations to customer technical and management staff is a plus
- Current TS/SCI clearanceREPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
- Understands and interprets the technical, organizational and process aspects of the task assigned and can relate them to the technical needs of the overall project or organization
- Plans and executes small projects or task elements within larger projects, organizations, or for groups of projects
- Responsible for the completion of assigned engineering tasks or small projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines
- Begins participating in the proposal process
- Directs support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing, and prototype fabrication
