Laboratory Technician I - La Jolla California

Responsibilities - Complying with the laboratory's technical, administrative and safety policies and procedures.
- Participating in the laboratory's quality assurance plan, adhering to quality control and preventive maintenance policies and appropriately documenting these activities.
- Working as part of a team to produce repeatable quality results.
- Assessing and processing blood samples.
- Performing DNA extraction and qPCR.
- Preparing lab reagents and controls.
- Reporting customer results.
- Assisting with optimization projects and experiments.
- Operating high performance liquid handling robots.
- Maintaining a clean and organized laboratory space.
- Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Troubleshooting and identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance and/or reporting of test results by initiating corrective action and using the defined electronic system to make the required management notification.
- Participating in proficiency testing in the same manner as routine samples.
- Actively participating in successful and timely completion of training and competency assessment as outlined in the laboratory and departmental training programs.
- Participating within the departmental team to resolve problems or implement projects.
Qualifications - Meets minimum regulatory education requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science, OR 90 semester hours including: 16 semester hours of chemistry including 6 hours inorganic chemistry, 16 hours biology, and 3 hours math.
- qPCR experience is a plus
- Ability to adapt to changes in a fast-paced and evolving work environment
- Due to the nature of the tests extensive documentation skills are required
- Requires strong attention to detail, communication, and organization
- Requires the ability to adapt to change efficiently
- Must have the flexibility to work occasional overtime to meet corporate and departmental goals
- Schedule: [Mon, Wed-Sat], [Mon-Fri], or [Tues-Sat] (changes weekly; monthly schedule released at least 2 weeks in advance)
