Description: We are seeking a Bioinformatics Intern with a passion for innovation to help build an R Shiny software application for interactive visualization and exploration of data generated using Alamar's novel technology platform. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to complete the inaugural version of an invaluable tool for Alamar R&D teams. This person should ideally have experience in basic R Shiny application development. The intern will work closely with members of the Bioinformatics Team, with expertise in bioinformatics, biostatistics, R Shiny development, and software engineering, as well as other highly talented and motivated R&D scientists. The candidate will work in an exciting, a fast-paced environment, learn about innovative new technology, and gain experience in a rapidly growing company making a big impact in life science research and early disease diagnosis. Responsibilities: - Work with mentors in Bioinformatics and members of other teams to create a plan for R Shiny application development. The application will serve as a tool for interactive visualization and exploration for data generated using Alamar's novel technology platform.
- Develop the R Shiny application. This will include adapting pre-existing code as well as writing novel code to produce data visualizations, data summaries, and generate R Markdown reports.
- Develop and maintain the application code in a Git repository.
- Present and demonstrate the application to Bioinformatics and other internal stakeholders after each stage of development. Obtain feedback and incorporate changes accordingly.
- Write associated user guide and other documentation.
- Work with software engineering experts to deploy the application for internal use.
- Other side projects may be available based on Bioinformatics needs and the intern's interests. Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled Master's or PhD student in bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related fields is preferred. Undergraduate students may be considered if they have R programming and R Shiny experience.
- Previous R Shiny application development experience is strongly desired.
- Previous GitHub experience is beneficial.
- Experience with proteomics, other 'omics data analysis, or other types of complex high dimensional biological data is a plus.
- Candidate should have an enthusiasm for proteomics and learning new things.
- Self-motivation with a positive "can do" attitude, attention to detail and ability to manage complex projects.
- Strong communication skills to work within a multidisciplinary team environment required.
