As a Rail Maintenance Assistant, you will help ensure our cars stay up to the required safety and operating standards. This behind-the-scenes position is a pivotal role in our daily operations. RESPONSIBILITIES Assist senior mechanics with the repair and maintenance of domed rail cars. Perform nightly checks and repairs per FRA regulations and compliance. Use software program(s) for tracking parts inventory and repairs. Routinely cleans and services HVAC-R equipment. Maintain workspaces and promote shop safety by cleaning work areas and removing hazardous materials such as oil, coolant, and other fluids. Test electrical circuits and other related components using electrical testing equipment. Perform routine preventative maintenance on buildings and grounds. Safely operate scissor lifts, ATVs, and forklifts. REQUIREMENTS One year of experience in positions involving maintenance. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be willing to be part of our random alcohol and drug testing program. Must pass a pre-employment background check. Minimum age of 18 years is required to reside in company housing, where available. Must be eligible to work in the United States. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Ability to organize and prioritize work, and maintain attention to time constraints, while working in a team or group environment. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and external influences. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while achieving daily goals. Ability to support and comply with company policies, procedures, and guidelines including support and comply with company health and safety standards.
